strong Greetland side. Man of the match Charlie
Holt-Conway made some fine saves in goal in the
first half and scored from long range in the second
half.
Billy Nolan scored a brace of goals in the first
half and a belting goal in the second match. Jos
Sutcliffe-Veitch put in some good tackling in
midfield and took the ball forward well. Wildcats
eventually won 3-1. In the second game Billy Nolan
got man of the match and there was an overall
impressive display by Ben Parsons on his debut
23rd Sep 2007
Wildcats 16 Brighouse Lions1

Goalkeeper Sebastian Lombardi touching the ball
once with goals scored by Billy Nolan 4, Charlie 3 &
Joe 2.
Coach Dave
Veitch rang the changes involving all the squad and in the 2nd

effective against the wind & an extra Lions player! Good
skills were shown by Ben Parsons (corner), Sebastian
(passing), James Raw (tackling) Nathan
Whitford (touch tight marking) that ended with 7 goals
coming from Jos 2, Sebastian 1 and man of the match Ben
Parsons 4.

Purr….fect
Wildcats played a perfect team game on a perfect football day
against a similar sized team.
Our perfect
start came almost from the kick off with
Billy Nolan
scoring from a long-range shot. Many tackles, dribbles, passes
and pinpoint shots resulted in an 8 –0 half time score.
Hi-light was one of Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch goals that
involved all players:
Goalkeeper
Joe
Conway’s
great roll out to
Charlie Holt-Conway
passed to Sebastian Lombardi trap & pass to
Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch who fired into the corner of the net
after a good dribble and a one-two with
Billy Nolan.
2nd half started more
evenly, with Charlie & Billy rested, until
Ben Parsons scored direct from a corner then good team
play resulted in another 5 goals whilst Goalkeeper James
Raw only once touched the ball & this was outside the
box ! Hi-lights were Sebastian scoring a left foot
goal, Joe scoring after winning the ball on the
half way line and fine defensive covering from MOM Jos.
All the goals came from Sebastian & Jos x5, plus
Billy x2, Joe & Ben x1.
The 2nd game was won
7 – 1 with MOM Billy bagging a further 5 along with
goals from Charlie & Joe. Other displays came
from great tackling by James Raw, a series of
corners by Nathan Whitford all aided by
Charlie’s long kicks.
7th Oct 2007
Todmorden Borough 0 Wildcats 10
Heads up
play deep into the border country resulted in wins for the
Wildcats through great team play against a good defensive
Borough team that tackled its socks off.
The first
game was tight during all the 1st half that end 3 –
0. Excellent Wildcat defensive covering resulted in Goalkeeper
Ben
Parsons not having to touch the ball
as Charlie Holt-Conway continually mopped up the
borough attacks along with Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch & Sebastian
Lombardi
running “box
to box” and MoM
Joe
Conway
linking well with his team- mates.
The Wildcats dominated the 2nd
half that ended with the Borough having its only shot at
Goalkeeper
Sebastian Lombardi
in the final seconds of the game. Charlie Holt-Conway
again dominated the defensive play linking free flowing
play with hi-lights
being two Penalty goals by
Billy Nolan
& Charlie
Holt-Conway
(Jos letting his team-mate take his chance),
Jos
Sutcliffe-Veitch running back to
make a goal saving tackle, Sebastian Lombardi
scoring thru a brave challenge & shot. Goals scored by
Billy &Jos x3, Charlie x2, Sebastian & Joe
x1.
Coach Dave Veitch
successfully rotated all his players and the 2nd
game was won 11 – 0. MOM Sebastian dominated the 1st
half’s play that again had Borough tackling anything that
moved. And the 2nd half was the Ben Parsons
& Billy show as they provided each other with many goal
chances & each a hat-trick. All due to team play by Nathan
Whitford and an excellent defensive display by James
Raw, including a piece of play where James
tackled/dribbled thru all 4 Borough players, plus
excellent Goalkeeping from Billy (including a brilliant
diving save), Jos and Charlie. Goals scored by
Ben x5, Billy x3, Sebastian x2 &
James x1.

14th Oct 2007
Wildcats 6 Hebden Bridge Saints 2
Wildcats goal tally was reined in by an equal sized team from
Hebden Bridge that resulted in a fast game with victory
assured through hard work, playing positions and team work.
Good early play had Wildcats 2 – 0 up from Billy Nolan’s
prolific boot and then defensive team work led by MoM
Charlie Holt-Conway who stood out by mopping up many
Saints attacks. Then hard work in midfield by Ben Parsons
& Sebastian Lombardi gained control that saw Billy
complete a 1st half hat trick and a Goalkeeping party piece
from Joe Conway.
The 2nd half continued with end to end action with hi-lights
coming from Goalkeeper James Raw making 2 excellent
saves, a volleyed shot from Joe Conway, and a team goal
from a Charlie tackle/pass to Billy who crossed
for Ben Parson to score. In summary goals were scored
by Billy x5 & Ben x1.
The 2nd game was drawn 2-2 with Coach Alf Lombardi
introducing new signing Emanuel who scored with his
first touch. Ref “Symmy” had plenty of work in a tough
game where MoM James Raw defended very well and good
work coming from midfielders Sebastian Lombardi &
Joe Conway plus Nathan Whitford (scoring chances) &
Jack (tackles). Goalkeeping was shared between Jack
& Charlie & goals came from Sebastian x1 &
Emanuel x1.
All in All the Wildcats are ready for the upcoming game
against our friends “the Warley Whites”
4th Nov 2007
Warley Whites 0 Warley Wildcats 4
A game that matched the weather – Glorious with both Warley
teams playing well.
Wildcats finished the 1st Half 3 – 0 up but had to weather an
initial “Whites” storm with goalkeeper James Raw making
3 saves in the first 5 minutes. Gradually Wildcats built their
momentum with Charlie Holt-Conway mopping up in defence
along with midfield industry from Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch
& Ben Parsons that fed striker Emanuel Ngandu
then Nathan Whitford. Hi-lights were the goals: Jos
picking himself up from a fall to score in the corner;
persistent shoots resulted in a goal for Ben; &
Charlie scoring direct from a free kick.
2nd Half saw more ferocious tackling, with goalkeeper
Emanuel being kept busy & good defending from James
& Charlie. MoM Jos linked play well that created
several shots that were saved by the excellent Whites keeper.
Emanuel (goal kicking), Ben (Heading) &
Nathan (Trap & shot) displayed other notable skills,
whilst the half’s only goal was scored by Charlie.
11th Nov 2007
Warley Wildcats 0 Hx Irish Greens 3
The Wildcats six game unbeaten record was lost to a very good
Hx Irish Green team.
Playing against the breeze & an organised team the Wildcats
worked tirelessly to close down a talented team that used
their individual ball skills well and at half time the score
was 0-2. Goalkeeper James Raw made many excellent saves
whilst Charlie, Seb, Ben & Jos managed to create a few
chances whilst marking & tackling anything that moved.
Coach Alf Lombardi played a master tactical play with
Goalkeeper Charlie Holt-Conway making tremendous kicks
down the field of play that caused the Greens problems. Again
play was tight and Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch worked hard to
break through midfield and the Wildcats managing to forge a
few good chances, the hi-light being a Sebastian Lombardi
dribble with a Ben Parsons good pass to Joe Conway
whose shot was parried for a corner. Again the Hx Irish
individual skills created chances that required excellent
defending from James Raw & his team-mates.
The 2nd game ended 0-5 that mirrored the earlier match with a
0-2 half time score & had Goalkeepers Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch
& Jack Brooke sharing the MOM. The game had all the team
practicing touch tight marking and tackling whilst
goal-scoring chances were few, the hi-light being an
Emanuel Ngandu dribble & pass to Nathan Whitford
whose shot went wide of the post.
Match report. Sunday 18th
Nov 2007
St. Columbas 2 – Warley Wildcats 4
An all-round accomplished display saw the Wildcats run out
winners against a well-organised St. Columbas team. It was
bitterly cold and all the players did well in the conditions.
Wildcats defended well with James on form, Seb
tracking back well to support the midfield and Jack
coming on, as sub, making some good tackles. Ben (first
half) played very well in goal as did Charlie (second
half). Jo Conway won MOM with good dribbling skills in
midfield. Jos scored a couple of excellent goals and
worked hard in midfield. ‘Super-sub’ Emanuel netted
with a great strike and Ben thumped in another.
In the second match the wind-chill factor got even worse so
the match was played at seven-a-side, with Nathan
supporting the team well in defence! Their team, with one
super-strong player, scored five goals against one from Ben.
The Wildcats looked good even though not at their very best.
Some good passing skills were shown and there is good teamwork
in the squad. All in all, it bodes well for the rest of the
season after the loss of their top scorer Billy Nolan.
Ryburn Black 1 Warley
Wildcats 6 Sunday 25 Nov 2007
On a much milder, winter morn, the ever-improving Wildcats
eventually ran out winners against a mixture of Ryburn Blacks
and some Ryburn Reds.
The Wildcats made a sluggish start and went behind early on.
Seb scored a neat goal to level things. It could have
got worse had it not been for a fine stop by Jos in
goals. Wildcats went ahead after a freaky headed own goal but
were still not firing on all cylinders! Nathan ran well
up front. James shored-up the defence and Joe
battled hard in midlfield. Emmanuel came on up front
and looked sharp and fast. Ben looked good at left
midfield and soon slotted in the third.
The second half saw Jos come out up front. Charlie
came on in defence and the Wildcats began to settle. Seb
supported well in midfield and tackled to great effect. Ben
scored another great goal in between a brace from Jos.
Nathan came back on up front and Emmanuel
switched to midfield where he looked strong. Emmanuel
really got stuck in, hit the post, and was rewarded for his
efforts with the MOM award. Charlie again looked strong
and sent some lovely passes up the touchline. Joe
played well in goals when needed to save from Ryburn.
In the second match the Wildcats drew 1 – 1. Ben scored
an excellent goal to complete his hat-trick. The Ryburn Red
N0. 9 played very well all morning.
Warley Wildcats 2
Northowram Colts 1 Sunday 9 Dec 2007
The Wildcats second half display matched the improved weather
from Saturday’s wintery showers and they ran out winners
against a Northowram Colt team that recruited from all of its
U7 squad.
Again the Wildcats made a sluggish start and went a goal down
to a well organised Colts team that forced two early shots and
a brave save from Goalkeeper James. Consequently, all
players tackled, touch marked & ran back with Charlie
leading the defensive play with most midfeld breaks coming
from Jos. Even the introduction of Emanuel and
Nathan could not change the 1st half flow but Coach
Dave Veitch’s rousing half time team talk inspired a 2nd
half where the Wildcats played some great football. Seb
was rewarded for a lively display with the MOM award
The Wildcats equalised early with great play from a Jos
dribble and cross for Seb to side foot home. The half
continued with end to end play with hi-lights being a
Northowram striker shooting wide whilst totally free and Goal
Keeper Ben making a good save. But eventually excellent
passing provided opportunities including a team “shoot fest”
that came from a defending tackle by Joe and
dribble/cross from Charlie that, shortly afterwards,
resulted in the winner coming from Jos.
Sunday 6th January 2008
Northowram Juniors 4 – Warley Wildcats 2
The Wildcats suffered only their second defeat of the season
against a well-organised, physically strong and talented
Northowram side.
The Wildcats must have eaten too much xmas pudding because
they seemed to take an eternity to “get going”. They fell
behind to two goals and it could have been more if it wasn’t
for the heroics of Joe Conway in goal.
The Wildcats now showed their true fighting spirit! John Wayne
Stylee! (True Grit! Geddit?). Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch scored a
wonder goal skipping tackles down the right flank and shooting
low into the corner.
MOM Emmanuel came on upfront and lit up the game with
some mesmerising ‘drag backs’ (as practised in training!).
Ben Parsons switched to centre-back and looked comfortable
and in control. When he was fouled coming forwards Ben
stepped up and fired a ‘rocket’ of a free-kick into the net.
Sebastian Lombardi was now stopping their attacks in
midfield with ferocious tackling and James Raw was as
solid as ever with his tackling and anticipation. Half time 2
-2.
The second half saw James go in goal and Joe
play up front. Warley Wildcats more than matched Northowram in
this period and they came close to snatching a winner. However
two late goals from Northowram sealed the Wildcats’s fate. The
scoreline flattered Northowram and really the Wildcats
deserved a draw!
The second match was very similar to the first except the
Wildcats Goalie was from Northowram! Jos scored two
more goals and the result was 2-2.
Brighouse Tigers 2 -
Warley Wildcats 2 Sunday 13 Jan 2008
The Wildcats played with the elements (slope and driving wind)
and were disappointed to be drawing 0-0 at half time against a
strong Tigers team. Goalkeeper James only had a few
saves to make as the Wildcats effectively tackled and marked a
competent Brighouse team. Whilst Wildcat’s goal scoring
opportunities were restricted by the small pitch, hi-lights
being a brace of shots from Joe.
Wildcats had no fear of losing and scored two excellent team
goals with Jos winning the ball back and playing a
one/two with Joe to score and Charlie crossing a
corner kick over to Ben who forced the ball home,
whilst defensive cover was provided by MOM James. Coach
Dave V introduced Nathan for Ben and it
allowed Tigers to test Goalkeeper Seb (including a
corner kick that when through the side netting) but who had no
chance in saving two screaming shots that levelled the game
up. Overall the Brighouse pitch was too small for six-side,
which restricted the Wildcats from playing their ‘flowing’
football.
Sunday January 27th Warley
Wildcats 4 – Crossley Juniors 0
Coach Dave Veitch introduced a new system for the 6 a
side game against Crossley Juniors, 1-1-2-1, to good effect.
The team seemed alert and tackled strongly. The first goal
come following a substitution, on came Emmanuel, who
immediately played a delightful pass to Joe who in turn
slotted the ball in the net. The second goal followed early in
the second half from a strong run down the right wing by
Charlie who crossed into the box for Sebastian to
shoot through the crowd into the net. Jos made some
strong surging runs and was unlucky not to score, whilst
James made some strong tackles in defence. Ben
finished off a good result for the wildcats by scoring two
well taken goals.
The second game, which was much tighter, saw the introduction
of Nathan who made some strong surging runs in attack
and Jack who tackled effectively in the middle of the
field. The game ended 1.0 following a late deciding goal by
Ben.
Sunday 24 February Warley
Wildcats 9 v Northowram Rams 1
On a rainswept morning the Wildcats swept away the opposition
to record another victory after a few weekends without a game.
A new formation for six-a-side, saw Brody, in goal,
provide a fine display in his first game for the wildcats.
Charlie opened the scoring with a typically thunderous
shot. Jos slotted in the second. Joe then
grabbed a brace of goals with superb forward play. Emmanuel
and Jack came on and played excellently. Nathan
came on and battled well upfront. Halftime 4 – 0.
The second half saw more changes with Ben moving up
front and scoring with a sweet left foot shot. Sebastian
marshalled midfield linking between defence and deserved his
MOM award for tremendous tackling and running. Jos
completed his hat trick with a penalty and a tap-in from a
great cross. Next Charlie scored an amazing goal by
returning their goalie’s goalkick straight into the net.
Seb scored a fine goal and James battled well in
midfield. Ben was upended in the penalty area but saw
his penalty saved. At the final whistle Northowram scored a
disputed consolation goal.
Sunday 9th March
2008Crossley Mixenden 1 Warley Wildcats 10
Crossley Mixenden put up a spirited defence and were game
enough for a second match on the most water-logged pitch
played on this season. The game could be nicknamed the ‘romp
in the swamp’ because the match did turn into a ‘goalfest’ for
the Wildcats. Nearly everyone got their names of the score
sheet, including Brody who came out of goals in the
second match to score. Sebastian played well and was
unlucky not to score a penalty which was saved on the line.
Emmanuel scored two and James scored a ‘cracker’.
The second match was 7 – 0 to the wildcats. Strong running by
Joe saw him score four goals over both matches,
including a hat trick in the second match. Charlie and
Jos, who both played in defence at times, scored the
remaining goals. Charlie scored a hat trick over both
games and Jos, who finished with the MOM award, scored
six in total. There were some comical moments in the mud and
credit to our hosts for helping to make it a thoroughly
entertaining morning!
Sunday 16th March Tod Sports
1 – Warley Wildcats 7
On a ‘springish’ morning the Wildcats got into their stride
and looked impressive in what became a comfortable win. What
was most pleasing was their teamwork. Ben opened the
scoring with a neat finish. Jos scored six goals on the
trot including some skilful dribbling. Todmorden pulled one
back when the score was 3-0 and were good at calling for the
ball. Brody played well between the sticks. James
passed well in midfield and won the MOM award for his industry
. Seb tackled really well in midfield and prevented
Todmorden from attacking. Emmanuel looked sharp up
front. Luke played well on his debut in defence and
midfield. Charlie looked strong as usual and went on
great runs at their defence.
In the second game the wildcats went a goal down and then
Charlie equalised with a thunderous shot. The winner came
from Seb, slotted home well. At the final whistle
Jos sprinted back to tackle and prevent a certain
equaliser. Emmanuel played in goal for the final 10
minutes and played well.
The Future Looks Bright!
On Friday 28th March, the Warley Rangers U7 ‘s played a
special invitation tournament organised by Burnley FC. Against
very strong opposition the boys, who are a mixture of the
‘Wildcats’ and ‘Whites’ played exceptionally well in all
positions. After qualifying through the group stages without
conceding a goal, they then beat Glen Juniors 1 – 0 in the
quarter finals. The semi-final went to extra-time and they
lost in the last minute 1 – 0 to Gomersal ‘A’. However, Warley
had looked the stronger side for most of the match. Gomersal
‘A’ went on to be the eventual winners defeating Halifax Irish
Greens 2 – 1 in the final. The boys are from left to right
back row: Brody Graham, Charlie Holt-Conway, Ellis Palka, Ben
Parsons, James Bottomley. Front Row: James Raw, Patrick
Lennon, Jos Sutcliffe-Veitch
Sunday 6th April Warley
Wildcats 11 - Brighouse Panthers 0
The Wildcats looked back in good form against a willing
Brighouse side. The opening goal was a great passing move with
Jos, in defence, sending a pass to Ben out wide.
Ben dribbled well and crossed for Charlie to
smash it into the roof of the net. Seb, playing centre
midfield, netted a brace. Joe, running strong upfront,
scored a hat-trick. Ben, who was MOM, looked very
lively at left midfield and scored a brace also. Luke
came on and challenged well in midfield. Brody in goals
didn’t really need to make a save but kicked well when needed.
The second half saw Charlie grab a second and Jos
score his only goal. Luke played well in goal and
Seb led the attack.
In the second match Charlie played striker and ran up
the left wing and hit a scorcher. Ben scored a
hat-trick, with Joe getting another from midfield.
Towards the end Jos pulled off a great save from a
well-hit penalty to deny Brighouse a goal. Final score 5 – 0.
Sunday 13th April – Warley
Wilcats 1 - Crossley Swifts 1
The Wildcats struggled to score against a resilient Crossleys
side. The first half saw Ben play very well in goals.
Jos scored by shooting through the keeper’s legs to put
the wildcats ahead. Crossleys pulled one back to level things.
Charlie made surging runs from midfield and Seb
ran and tackled well on the right flank. James played
good upfront and Joe pushed forward from defence at
every opportunity. Luke took up good positions when
introduced into attack.
The second match saw the Wildcats assert themselves more and
they won 3 - 1. The goals came from Ben (2) and another
from MOM Jos.
Sunday 20th April -Warley
Wilcats 1 - Halifax Irish Greens 2
Warley Wildcats kept up their
impressive season with a hard-fought defeat against arguably
the best U7's team in Yorkshire! The quality of the football
from both sides was, at times, breathtaking. To only lose by
one goal was a real achievement.
